Centre, Delhi government to jointly fund two new AI centres of excellence
MeitY and the Delhi government will jointly fund two new AI Centres of Excellence aimed at boosting innovation and public service delivery.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has granted administrative approval for two AI Centres of Excellence (AICoE) in Delhi, to be funded jointly by MeitY, the Delhi government and industry partners, according to a statement from the Delhi IT Department. The centres will be established at Netaji Subhash University of Technology (NSUT) and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.
The initiative aims to support around 90-100 startups, train 6,000-7,000 individuals and generate more than 1,000 employment opportunities, while also enhancing AI adoption in governance and public service delivery. Industry partner commitments and a key performance indicator framework have already been submitted, with an MoU between MeitY and partner institutions currently being finalised.
Delhi IT Minister Pankaj Singh reviewed the AICoE project on Wednesday, along with an AI IT training lab for capacity building of government officers at Vikas Bhawan II. He said the project would improve governance and service delivery besides creating opportunities for startups, industry, researchers and young professionals.
Officials said the training lab is fully ready and expected to become fully operational within a month, once course content and AI-based learning applications are finalised.
